Our Rock in a Changing Season

Changes.

I have been thinking a lot lately about the changing nature of things, particularly this post-Covid lockdown summer.  The streets of Baltimore seem less packed, but interstates are crowded with people moving to and fro, visiting relatives, vacationing and such. The airports can be quite maddening at times as air travel seems to be coming back with a vengeance. People are changing lifestyles, changing careers, changing churches. My daughter and her husband just moved from Boston to Atlanta where they will maintain their Boston based jobs, continuing to work remotely. Over the last few weeks I have seen 4 relatives and friends make the ultimate change of location, transitioning from this world of pain.

One of the nicknames of the LORD is the Rock.

  • Psalms 61:2 Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
  • Psalms 62:2 He alone is my Rock and my salvation.
  • Exodus 17:6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.”
  • 1 Corinthians 10: 4 …they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

When hiking through wilderness one needs to have confidence that their footing is reliable and they need to stay hydrated so they don’t lose their energy and mental capacities. Like the children of Israel as they trekked through their wilderness, we need to survive this journey by planting our feet in Christ (1 Cor 10:1-6) and being sustained by the living water that He provides (John 15:3,Eph 5:26 ) .

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand.

All other ground is sinking sand.

Be encouraged, saints. In this seemingly unstable, changing season there is still a Rock that is higher than you or I! He is building His church and the gates of hell cannot overcome it!
